I felt so very happy for a client today. A man I met when I first went moved to the south office of my agency, just after Sept. 11th 2001, came by to see me. In 2001 he was so depressed and suicidal and he had such a terrible experience being in Canada. He lost a job he was offered because he is from Egypt and he is Muslim and after Sept 11th the company recinded their job offer because the thought he could be a terrorist (which, btw, is completely against the law here - to recind a job offer based on religion or cultural background); he was a Chemist with a speciality in the nuclear area. He was so so depressed and in debt about $30,000 and one day he disappeared and I never heard from him again. Today he came byand was so so happy and everything is so well for him and he was so sweet! He gave me a big hug and brought me this box of candy and thanked me for "saving him" I was in tears.

It is days like today that reminds me just how much I love my job.

Awww thanks ladies I hope you know that I wasn't fishing for compliments though. I was just so pleased to see him so well and to hear the joy in his voice and see the smile on his face. That is something I never got to see the first time I met him. And I honestly did nothing for him because he disappeared before I really could, but I guess listening was what he needed more than anything.

I think his story just reminds me that no matter what adversity a person is facing, it is possible to overcome it.
